This hand-made book and slipcase (1 of 3 planned) was designed and created by me, Gregg Peterson, a 65-year-old aspiring artist from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The key graphic elements include nine limited edition 4x6” 2-color reduction linoleum block prints and 13 small linoleum block stamps, hand-carved and printed on colored tissue or Nepalese lotka paper using the chine collé technique. The blue and black end papers are cut from commercially available silk-screened Japanese Chiyogami.
The 2-color prints were made in the late fall and early winter of 2024-25—an angst-filled time of awful premonitions that tragically have come to pass. They represent my first attempts at reduction printing and were a useful distraction from the news. They each began with a digital image of two objects or symbols—many borrowed and slightly altered from my page layout software—arranged with lines or markings that attempt to unify or juxtapose the objects in some way. Each image was transferred to a single linoleum block for carving and printing in two stages—first the primary (non-black) color, and then what appears in these images as black.
The collection of prints feels like a visual diary of my chaotic and sometimes dark thoughts and nightmares during these last several months.
